The Education Incentive Program for African Nova Scotian Students was established in 1965 by the Government of Nova Scotia
to assist and encourage African Nova Scotian students to continue their education in high schools, community colleges, technical
institutes, universities, and other approved post-secondary institutions. This program has evolved into the Scholarship Program
for African Nova Scotian Students.

Provide financial assistance to African Nova Scotian (Black) students so they will be encouraged to continue their post-secondary
education immediately following completion of grade 12 in the Nova Scotia school system, develop leadership potential, and meet
educational career and professional objectives

Eligibility

ELIGIBILITY
• An African Nova Scotian (Black) student with
genealogical/ancestral connections to an historical African
Nova Scotian/Black community; and/or
• An African Nova Scotian (Black) student is a Canadian
citizen whose parent(s)/guardian(s) is(are) of Black
African descent, and
• Applicant must be a resident of Nova Scotia;
• Applicant must be a Canadian Citizen;
• Applicant must be a graduate of the Nova Scotia School
System
• Enrolled as a full-time student in a recognized program

Submission and Application Details

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
• A completed application form
• Official mid-term transcript – (final transcript may be
forwarded when it becomes available)
• Copy of official letter of acceptance to a community college
or trade school
• Reference letters (one academic & one community)
• Maximum 300 words (typed) essay describing your lived
experience as a Black person and your connection to one
of the Historical African Nova Scotian Communities
