African Nova Scotian Journalism Initiative
Beginning in 2026—through a combination of scholarships, financial awards and tuition waivers —King’s will fully cover the cost of tuition for up to three African Nova Scotian students each academic year who are studying in the university’s undergraduate or postgraduate programs in journalism
If you’re 16-21 years old, passionate about inclusion, and looking for leadership experience, apply to become a youth leader at the camp! Mentor young campers, support their growth and build your own leadership skills
Time: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm Age Group: 9-14 years old Location: East Preston Community Centre
Up + Atom is a free 2-day youth camp designed to spark and cultivate children’s interest in science while providing a safe space for sport.
Throughout the camp, participants will engage in hands-on activities, carefully crafted to fuel curiosity, foster a passion for STEM education, and inspire innovative thinking. They will also have the opportunity to develop their sports skills with guidance from experienced players and coaches, including members of the Halifax Wanderersand theHalifax Hoopers.
African Nova Scotian Nursing Student Success Program
The Rankin School of Nursing at St. Francis Xavier University is committed to prioritizing placements for African Nova Scotian students in our Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs. To enhance student success, students receive mentorships and free tutoring, as well as a chance to engage in community activities.
Candidates who self-identify as African Nova Scotians, or who are Black and were not born or raised in Nova Scotia but have a substantial familial connection to a historically Black Nova Scotian community are eligible for scholarships funded under the Jeannine Deveau Equity Endowment Fund (valued at $4000yr)
