At Nova Scotia Power, we see the diversity of our team as one of our strengths – one we continue to build upon on and celebrate. Our five-year community investment strategy focuses on supporting programs, organizations, and initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, help to remove barriers, and advance education and drive awareness in our communities.
There are four (4) $2,500, non-renewable awards available to Black Nova Scotian students entering any year of a full time post-secondary education program. Preference will be given to applicants enrolled in the areas of Power Engineering, Power Line Technician, Instrumentation Tech, Engineering, Technology, Business, Marketing & Communications, Environmental Sciences or Law. Recipients may have the opportunity to participate in a 12-week paid internship at Nova Scotia Power during their term of study. Recipients will be notified to apply for opportunities.
Eligibility
Eligibility & Selection Criteria
Applicants must be Canadian citizens of African descent and permanent residents of Nova Scotia.
Priority will be given to individuals who are Black Nova Scotians, Indigenous Black, Africadian, Afri-Scotian or Scotian and who are descendants of free and enslaved Black Loyalists, Black Refugees, Maroons and other Black people who were settled across 52 indigenous (original) land-based Black communities.
Please be prepared to speak to your connection to the Black Nova Scotian community as defined above if selected for an interview.
This bursary will not be awarded in conjunction with any other Nova Scotia Power Inc. scholarship or bursary and will not be awarded for the pursuit of graduate studies.
