The Delmore Buddy Daye Learning Institute (DBDLI) has a 10-year legacy, originating from the Black Learners Advisory Committee (BLAC)’s recommendations in 1994, evolving into an independent body in 2012, and celebrating its milestone in 2022. We are pleased to be able to make available two bursaries:
$3,000 – Awarded to a student currently in a post-secondary institution.
$1,400 – Awarded to a student entering a post-secondary institution in 2024.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must identify as African Nova Scotian: demonstrate a clear connection to a historical African Nova Scotian community.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a post-secondary institution for the academic year 2024.

  • One personal testimony on the role and impact of Ubuntu in your life and community
  • One reference letter: You must provide one letter from any of the categories listed below:
  • Community member (volunteer organization, community leader, etc.)
  • Student Support Worker
  • Educator in your Regional Centre
  • Instructor/professor
  • Black Student Advising Office

Your reference letter must contain the referee’s contact information.
