Ethel F. Grant Eagles Scholarship
Community Foundation of Nova Scotia (CFNS)
High School Post-secondaryA Scholarship Fund for Nursing Students at Cape Breton University
About the scholarship
Mrs Ethel (Grant) Eagles, a passionate Cape Bretoner, is always eager to help those in need. That’s why she created a Scholarship Fund at the Community Foundation of Nova Scotia to help nursing students at Cape Breton University. Born and raised in Dominion, Nova Scotia, Mrs Eagles led the province in her RN exams when she graduated from Glace Bay General Hospital as a registered nurse in 1946. Mrs Eagles immediately went to work in the local area and three years later she became an industrial nurse at the Sydney Steel plant. Mrs Eagles loved working in an industrial setting because it was fast-paced and dynamic! “I loved to analyze situations and figure out the best treatment plans.” Mrs Eagles also loved to work in surgery and ensured that every dressing was neatly done. In 1952, she married her best friend and the love of her life, Donald Lee Eagles. They were married for over 56 years and together they raised four children in Kingston, NS – Robert, Munroe, Annalee, and Lorna. Mrs Eagles currently lives in the Valley and enjoys going for walks with her sister.
