The Giller Mantella Scholarship

The Giller Mantella Scholarship, presented by Mantella Corporation, is a collaboration between the Giller Foundation and Mantella Corporation. The scholarship program’s objective is to support Black, Indigenous, and racialized students across Canada graduating high school and interested in continued education in English Literature, Writing or Creative Writing.

Three entrance scholarships, valued at $10,000 Canadian each for one year, are available to eligible Black, Indigenous and racialized students pursuing full-time postsecondary studies in English Literature, Writing or Creative Writing. Scholarships are available for bachelor’s or diploma-level programs. Of those three scholarships, one scholarship will be reserved for a student that identifies as Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit or Métis). Note: Only 35 submitted applications will be accepted for review. If 35 applications have been submitted prior to the application deadline, the portal will close regardless of the date.

Eligibility

You are eligible if you:

  •  Are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Are in your final year of high school (outside of Quebec) or final year of CEGEP (in Quebec) in the 2023-2024 academic year.
  • Are planning to start full-time studies in your first bachelor's degree or diploma in English Literature, Writing or Creative Writing in the 2024-2025 academic year.
  • Identify as a Black, Indigenous, or racialized student as per Statistics Canada categories
  • Have a minimum cumulative average of 75% or equivalent over the last three terms of available marks. (Non-academic courses, such as career or personal development related courses, will not be considered.)

Submission and Application Details

To apply for the scholarship, please submit an online application no later than April 2, 2024, at 1:00 PM EST by visiting https://portal.scholarshippartners.ca/welcome/Giller_EN/.

A committee of Canadian university and college representatives, chosen by Scholarship Partners Canada (SPC) select scholarship recipients. The Giller Foundation has no influence in the decision. The selection committee’s decision is final. All applicants will receive results of the selection process by email.
