
Black Students
Dalhousie has several awards for Indigenous Black student Scholarships. Students should submit a General Entrance Award Application to be considered for all relevant entrance awards, including the specific awards listed below. Follow the instructions above to apply.
Faculty of Management Promise Scholarship for Black and Indigenous Students
Value: In addition to financial support, Faculty of Management advisors will provide academic and career support, including assistance in finding work terms and career mentors to support long-term career aspirations.
Open to: Black and Indigenous students with priority given to African Nova Scotian and Mi’kmaq students admitted to the Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Management programs.
First Nations and Indigenous Black Student Scholarships
Value: $32,000 ($8,000 per year renewable for 4 years)
Open to: Indigenous Black and First Nations students from Atlantic Canada who demonstrate good academic standing and financial need.
Forsyth Family NS Scholarship
Value: Up to $80,000 (Up to $20,000 per year renewable for 4 years)
Open to: Black African Nova Scotian students who also demonstrate financial need and extra-curricular involvement.
Jeff D. and Marth Edwards Scholarship
Value: $12,000 ($4,500 per year renewable for 4 years)
Open to: Preference to Canadian students of Black African descent, and second preference to Black Bermudian Students at Dalhousie. Preference is also given to students entering a Bachelor of Science.
The Ivan Joseph Promise Scholarship
Value: $32,000 ($8,000 per year renewable for 4 years)
Open to: A domestic undergraduate student from an under-represented/under-served group entering an undergraduate degree program.
The Sankofa Scholarships
Value: Domestic Students – $32,000 ($8,000 per year renewable for 4 years)
Open to: Two award for domestic students. One award for a student of Black/African Descent of Caribbean heritage, and one for a Black/African Nova Scotian student entering an undergraduate degree program.
WeAreAllCS African Nova Scotian and African Descent Student Entrance Scholarship
Value: $10,000 ($5,000 per year for 2 years)
Open to: Students of African descent with priority given to African Nova Scotian students admitted to the Bachelor of Computer Science or Bachelor of Applied of Computer Sciences.
Eligibility
Generally, students need an 80% admission average or 26 predicted/anticipated IB Diploma points to be considered. Averages are calculated using the five courses that are required for the program that the student has applied for. Both domestic and international students are eligible to apply. For the First Nations and Indigenous Black Student Scholarships, the admissions average is not taken into consideration.
Submission and Application Details
To be considered for the General Entrance Award program, students must complete the application and submit any additional documents before the March 1 deadline.
